SNY broadcasting analyst Ron Darling announced Monday afternoon that he has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

"After the removal of the mass on my chest along with further tests, I have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer," Darling said. "My doctors have said they are optimistic that the cancer is treatable and that I would be back on air talking baseball in the next month or so. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their continued support."

SNY President Steve Raab said of Darling: "We are encouraged by Ron's doctor's prognosis and optimism. We will continue to wish the best for Ron as he focuses on his health and getting better each day, so he can be back in the booth alongside Gary and Keith."

Darling had announced last month that he would be taking a temporary medical leave. SNY studio analyst and former New York Met Todd Zeile will continue to fill in for Darling.
