Sam Darnold's career has hit back-against-the-wall territory following his trade from the Jets to the Carolina Panthers, where he didn't have much success last season.

But, just as GM Joe Douglas made that call to move Darnold to Carolina, the former third overall pick let the front office know they were "making a mistake," he said on the "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast with Tennessee Titans T Taylor Lewan and Will Compton

"At the end of the day, it's not my call," Darnold said. "If they don't think I'm the guy, it is what it is."

Darnold certainly got his fair share of criticism while wearing the green and white, especially considering his draft status and how the Jets were hoping he was the next best thing since Joe Namath. That obviously didn't come true, and Douglas moved on with his own guy in Zach Wilson

The fans can be ruthless but that's expected in this large market -- especially with the Jets not having reached the playoffs since 2010. Darnold admitted it would bother him from time to time.

"The part that pisses me off is when people judge my game, like how I'm playing," Darnold explained. "Then I'm like, 'Go strap it up.' I'm [like], 'You're a fan and I respect you as a fan. You can talk all the s--- you want, I'm not going to do anything at the end of the day, but take it easy.'"

Jets fans are focused entirely on Wilson's career now, as Darnold tries to make sure he stays in his starting role with the Panthers.

"I have enough security in myself where I can say, 'I know I'm a good quarterback. I know I can be a good quarterback in this league. I've proved it,'" Darnold said. "And I know there's a team, if something happens, that would want me."
