Carmelo Anthony has played his last game with Houston.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey announced the team's split with the former Knick Thursday before Houston's game against the Warriors.

"After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution," Morey said in a statement. "Carmelo had a tremendous approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role head coach Mike D'Antoni gave him. The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialized, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him."

The move comes four days after Morey denied a report that indicated the team was considering cutting the 34-year-old. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the team has no immediate plans to place Anthony on waivers. He is not under contract past this season.

He joined the Rockets this summer after the Oklahoma City Thunder traded him to the Atlanta Hawks and he was subsequently cut. Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 10 games with the Rockets this season, starting just twice.

Houston, which reached the Western Conference finals last season, is 6-7 entering Thursday's game. The Rockets are averaging the second-fewest points per game among Western Conference teams.

Rockets stars James Harden and Chris Paul, who recruited Anthony to Houston after the Hawks cut him, previously said they considered Anthony to be "great" addition.

"Melo's been great here," Paul said earlier this week, according to ESPN. "That's like a brother to me, know what I mean? I don't know what's being said or whatnot, but Melo's been great, working hard every day."

Including his five-day stint with Atlanta over the summer, Anthony has been with three teams since the start of last season.

The Knicks traded him to the Thunder in September 2017, and after one season with Oklahoma City he was involved in a three-team deal that included the Hawks and 76ers.

Atlanta officially acquired Anthony on July 25 and cut him on July 30. On Aug. 13, he signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal -- the veteran's minimum -- with the Rockets after receiving a buyout from the Hawks.

The No. 3 pick in the 2003 NBA draft, Anthony spent six and a half seasons with the Knicks from 2011 to 2017. He averaged 24.7 points in 412 games with New York.
