Mark Sanchez is back in the NFL.
The former Jets quarterback was signed by the Washington Redskins on Monday to serve as Colt McCoy's backup, per Field Yates of ESPN.
The Redskins were in need of another quarterback after Alex Smith suffered a season-ending injury, breaking his tibia and fibia, which required immediate surgery, during Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Texans.
Sanchez has not appeared in an NFL game since 2016 with the Cowboys and has not started a game since 2015 with the Eagels. He most recently served as Mitchell Trubisky's backup in Chicago last season but remained an unsigned free agent up until now.
In April, Sanchez was suspended four games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy but was allowed to serve that suspension while still unsigned.
The 32-year-old former first-round pick of the Jets also reunites with offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh, who was Sanchez's quarterbacks coach with the Jets from 2009-12.
Sanchez will suit up with the Redskins for their game against the Cowboys on Thursday, which is also the six-year anniversary of the infamous Buttfumble game.
