Things still weren’t clicking for the Rangers through two periods in Edmonton on Thursday night.

The offense wasn’t able to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities against Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner, so head coach Mike Sullivan decided it was time to shake things up.

Looking to create a spark he stacked his top three forwards on the first line -- putting the high-powered trio of Artemi Panarin, J.T. Miller, and Mika Zibanejad together.

It’s something Sullivan said postgame that the coaching staff has been debating utilizing over the past few games as they look to jumpstart the talent atop their lineup.

Ironically, the first time New York utilized it, it was the other lines that got the Blueshirts back into this one.

First it was defenseman Braden Schneider chipping in, as he found a loose puck off a busted odd man rush into the Edmonton zone and buried it for his first goal of the season.

The Rangers were able to keep the momentum going four minutes later, as Taylor Raddysh netted his team-high fifth goal, evening things up at three apiece.

“The third period was great,” Miller said. “We changed up the lines a bit trying to spark something, and we just had so many different guys chip in -- we need that throughout the course of the season.”

You do need depth scoring and balance in your lineup to find success, but you also need your stars to step up and produce when you need them the most, and that’s exactly what the captain did in overtime.

After the Rangers killed off a penalty in the opening minutes of OT, Miller broke into the Oilers zone and fired one by Skinner, securing the much-needed second point and completing the comeback.

It was New York’s first multi-goal third period comeback victory since the 2024 Stadium Series against the Islanders.

“That was a true team effort,” Miller said. “We needed that to build some confidence. It was good to see some go in. Hopefully that can propel us to keep this going more into this trip -- we have a chance to finish it off the right way.”

The Rangers close out the West Coast swing Saturday night against the Kraken in Seattle.
