The Rangers remain interested in trading for Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller, but Miller is far from convinced he's getting traded.

"They’re all rumors to begin with," Miller told reporters on Wednesday. "I don’t think I’m getting traded. I never thought I was getting traded. Everybody is speculating, so I never even looked into that (the Canucks) were trying to trade me to begin with."

Per The Athletic, the recent cost for Miller was said to be defenseman Braden Schneider, with Arthur Staple noting that would be a "non-starter" for the Rangers.

In January, Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff reported that the Blueshirts stood out as the team that had been "next level" in terms of interest in Miller, with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Minnesota Wild also expressing interest.

The Canucks, with 64 points, are on the fringes of the playoff race in the Western Conference, three points out of the second wild card spot. So it could make sense for them to get as much value as they can for Miller before the deadline.

Miller, 28, is earning $6 million this season and is set to enter the final year of his deal in 2022-23, when he will make $4.25 million (with a $5.25 million cap hit).

He has been terrific this season for the Canucks, with 21 goals, 40 assists, and a +/- of 7 in 54 games played.

For the Rangers, a reunion with Miller would provide a jolt as they look to improve their five-on-five offense and add another legitimate scorer to a group that includes Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, and Artemi Panarin, and is currently without the injured Kaapo Kakko.

Miller would also be an ideal fit positionally, since the Rangers would have the option of using him as a center or right wing.

Miller played for the Rangers from 2012 to 2018, scoring 72 goals and racking up 100 assists. He was traded along with Ryan McDonagh to the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2017-18 season in exchange for Libor Hajek, Brett Howden, Vladislav Namestnikov, and two picks.
