While the Giants weigh second-year head coach Pat Shurmur's future as general manager Dave Gettleman's press conference looms Tuesday morning, one potential candidate could be off the market if New York needs to make a hire.

Former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is set to meet Monday in Ashburn, Virginia, with the Redskins and is expected to be Washington's next head coach, according to a Sunday report by Julie Donaldson of NBC Sports.

The 57-year-old Rivera, who went 76-63-1 overall in eight-plus years and reached Super Bowl 50 with the Panthers before Carolina fired him Dec. 3 amid the team's 5-7 start to the 2019 season, "likes the young players" that the Redskins have.

Rivera and the Redskins are each other's first choice, according to Sunday reports by Ian Rapoport and Michael Silver of NFL Network and NFL.com.

The Giants (4-12) finished 2019 with the regular-season finale's 34-17 loss to the NFC East-clinching Philadelphia Eagles (9-7) Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Shurmur is 9-23 through two years with the Giants, who have not yet publicly decided on his future into 2020. Shurmur said he has not yet discussed the future with Giants ownership.
