How CB PIerre Desir ended up with the Jets isn't anything new for him.

The Colts surprisingly cut the veteran they signed to a three-year, $25 million extension last season, and it was an obvious shock to Desir. Talking with The Athletic's Connor Hughes, Desir said the emotions were definitely there.

But then a call from the Jets came a half hour after the Colts told him at noon on Saturday that he was being released. He called the situation "a blessing."

Like we said, though, it isn't anything new.

Desir has been cut multiple times before -- once with the Browns, twice with the Chargers, and once with the Seahawks. The one that was the hardest to swallow was in Seattle because Desir made changes to his game under the guidance of players like Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and others.

"It was different when I got cut in Seattle," he said. "I knew I played well in the preseason. So my mindset was that someone was going to pick me up."

Indianapolis did in 2017 and that's when Desir took a leap forward. He saw nine games with six starts that season, and was even better in 2018 with 79 tackles, eight passes defended, and two forced fumbles -- all career highs for the time.

But after a letdown year, so to speak, in 2019, Indy decided to part ways with the man whom they saw potential in. So the Jets called, and after speaking with a couple former teammates in Matthias Farley and Nate Hairston, it just felt right.

And that's mainly because of all the high regards defensive coordinator Gregg Williams got.

"That pretty much solidified my decision to sign with the Jets," Desir told Hughes. "A lot of players speak highly of him. Once I got my opportunity to speak to him, and talk to him, I really learned more about him beyond football, who he is, and how he coaches. I fit right in with the culture he's trying to bring. I'm trying to be a part of that."

In Desir, Williams is getting his top cornerback -- at least for the moment. The Jets are hoping to see that 2018 production from him, and they certainly need it as Trumaine Johnson and Darryl Roberts, their top two corners entering the 2019 season, are no longer on the roster. Bless Austin and Arthur Maulet, who just re-signed on a one-year pact, are both returning but there's more to be desired from that duo.

So, as long as Desir can stay healthy, the Jets are sure they have a cornerback that can consistenly have strong coverage. And he's ready to prove that the case.
