During Thursday's media availability, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur spoke about if he thinks the Giants are closer to the playoffs at the end of this season than they were at the end of last season.

"We'll find out next year," Shurmur said. "But, I think we made a lot of progress in a lot of areas, and it's hard to quantify when you don't match it up with wins, I get that. We've probably played about as many young players as you can play, not because we're playing young players, but because at this point they're our best players. And so those guys are going to really benefit from the reps they get, as we structure and move forward.

"You got a rookie quarterback that's made tremendous strides. That's probably a question for next year, but I think as we continue to grow here and build, there's a lot to be said for going out with a win."

Shurmur was then asked if he thinks he'll be around to find out next season.

"That's been a weekly question," Shurmur said. "We'll see."

He is 9-22 in nearly two seasons as the Giants head coach, but it's still unknown if ownership will keep him around for the 2020 season.

Running back Saquon Barkley was asked a similar question about if he believes the team is closer to being a playoff team this year compared to last.

"Yeah, I would say so," Barkley said. "I think every week we're growing. We're a young team, that's an excuse I don't want to use, but it is what it is I guess you can say. We're a young team. The more reps, more repetition, more plays, and more games, you're going to evolve into better players. And I feel like we've been doing that this season."
