Marcus Stroman pitched his first quality start with the Mets Sunday, but it wasn't enough in a 5-2 loss to the Phillies Sunday night... Pete Alonso smashed his 43rd home run of the season and remains tied for the NL lead with Cody Bellinger. He's nine shy of the all-time rookie record, held by Aaron Judge... Wilson Ramos extended his hitting streak to 25 games, third-longest in Mets history and longest ever by a Mets catcher. Brandon Nimmo was activated from the IL prior to Sunday's game and drew a walk in his only plate appearance.

Who is starting for the Mets?

RHP Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 4.14 ERA), who was battered around by the Cubs in his last start, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) for the first time in his career. His last outing against the Nationals came on Aug. 10 and was much better, allowing two runs and seven hits over seven innings, striking out five.

Who is starting for the Nationals?

RHP Joe Ross (3-3, 5.36 ERA), who will be making his seventh start of the season after 18 relief appearances earlier this season. The Mets jumped all over Ross the first time they saw him this year, touching him up for three runs on three hits while recording just one out against him. Ross has faced the Mets three times since then and has held them scoreless over three innings, allowing just one hit.
