The NFL and NFLPA released a joint statement on Monday night to break down the league's offseason changes amid coronavirus concerns, and the big highlight is all offseason programs have been cancelled.
For the Jets, their offseason workouts would have begun on April 20 like the rest of the teams who don't have a new head coach in place for the 2020 season.
Instead, the league will "continue to follow the guidance of medical and public helth professionals," and at the moment the best option is to keep players and personnel away from each other and continue to reassess the situation as the pandemic changes.
But that's not all. In regards to free agency, which has already been extremely active already in the first day of the legal tampering period, no players are allowed to visit a club facility when the new league year officially begins on March 18. So, for example, the Giants are not allowed to bring CB James Bradberry -- who has agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal on Monday -- to East Rutherford to make things official. And vice versa, team personnel isn't allowed to go to free agents for any reason.
The biggest issue there is physicals. Both the NFL and NFLPA are working on ways for players to get physicals in their home city as well as find ways to provide teams with medical records from prior clubs they played for.
And finally, all access to team facilities will be denied to players "other than those undergoing medically-supervised rehabilitation and treatment, for the next two weeks." This mandate reiterates the other pro sports leagues like the MLB, NBA and NHL.
So, while it is an exciting time in the NFL, the coronavirus pandemic is top priority for everyone and the correct precautions must be taken.
