Nets takeaways from 101-91 loss to Pistons

Brooklyn drops season-high fourth game in a row, fifth straight loss on home floor

A solid all-around effort from the Nets was not enough on Wednesday, as the team lost its fourth game in a row, falling to the visiting Utah Jazz, 101-91. The loss marked the club's fifth straight defeat on their home floor. >> Box score

Things to know about Wednesday's game...

1) Head Coach Kenny Atkinson got production from a variety of players in his rotation as the Nets saw at least five players reach double figures in scoring for the 18th time in 22 games this season (7-11 in those 18 games). Spencer Dinwiddie led the way off the bench with 18 points for the home team, but the Nets struggled to tickle the twine for most of the evening before settling at a 34.9 percent shooting clip from the field. Starting point guard D'Angelo Russell was not able to get in sync with any of his backcourt mates on Wednesday, finishing with 14 points (6-for-25 from the field).

2) Jarrett Allen continued his meaningful low-post play for the Nets with his eighth double-double of the season, (14 points, 10 rebounds, 8-of-11 on free throw attempts, -7 plus/minus), but it was his counterpart who stole the show. Jazz center Rudy Gobert made the Barclays Center his personal playground to the tune of a monster night (23 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and +17 plus/minus). It was Gobert's 19th double-double of the season, two off the league lead held by Joel Embiid, who also had a double-double in a defeat of the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

3) Brooklyn's defense continually harassed the visitors all night resulting in 19 turnovers and a season-high 12 steals for the Nets. The defense seemed to keep the Jazz at bay most of the night, especially during a big third quarter run when the Nets pushed their lead to double digits following a Spencer Dinwiddie three-pointer with just under a minute left in the third period (78-67). The Nets outscored the Jazz 36-27 in the quarter.

4) Despite a third quarter run to open the game, the home team's performance in the fourth quarter gave it all back and then some. The Jazz outscored the Nets 31-13 in the period and made the most of their opportunities by cutting down on the turnovers that plagued their offense all night. The Jazz led by as many as 16 points in the quarter as second-year guard Donovan Mitchell paced the attack with 14 points in the final frame (29 points overall).
