Nets PG Spencer Dinwiddie thinks he should have won the Most Improved Player award last season over Victor Oladipo and Clint Capela, and he didn't mince words when making his point.

"There's no way I shouldn't have won that," he said in an interview with the YES Network. Vic (Oladipo) had great years for four years, had one down year, then had a great, like an even better year, and they were like, 'Ah man, look, he played bad one year and then he played well.' Clint Capela played very well, but at the same time, through the dynamics of his team, he kinda got to come in and do his job. He excelled at it very much, but he got to do his job. Whereas if you look at [my] story, I was cast aside; I was in the D-League. I came in on Brooklyn, I wasn't supposed to play last year. We had [Jeremy Lin] and [D'Angelo Russell], they both got hurt. After that, obviously I had a nice run. The numbers were off the charts. You're talking about advanced analytics and everything. I was getting to the rim and creating points in efficiency on par with James Harden. There's no way I shouldn't have won that. You don't go from the D-League to just sub-All-Star-level point guard in 50 games.

While he's irked about the award he didn't get, he's looking forward to the season and has hope that the Nets can make the playoffs.

"I think ideally, we'd love to make the playoffs, keep it moving. ... If you win and play the right way, it all takes care of itself. I'm a big believer that you put in the work, you play the right way, you win the game and it'll play out the way things play out."

Dinwiddie, 25, averaged 12.6 points, 6.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 80 games for Brooklyn last season. In 58 games as a starter, he averaged 13.8 points and 7.2 assists, while his numbers dropped to 9.5 and 4.9 coming off the bench.
