Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' performance in Sunday's AFC Championship Game, a 35-24 win over the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium, resonated with more than just the average NFL fan.
As the Chiefs clinched their first Super Bowl appearance since January 1970, the only set of rings they have to date, former Mets catcher Mike Piazza saluted Mahomes on the signal caller's heroic effort.
Piazza, a legendary Met (1998-05) who played with Mahomes' father and former RHP Pat Mahomes from 1999-00 in New York, took to Twitter late Sunday evening and extended an according shout-out.

Mahomes Sr. enjoyed an 11-year MLB career, including his two-season stint with the Mets. In New York, Mahomes Sr. went 13-3 with a 4.74 ERA and 127 strikeouts to 103 walks over 92 games (five starts) and 157.2 innings pitched.
The younger Mahomes notably strolled into the Chiefs' Oct. 21, 2018, Sunday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals with his father's No. 23 jersey. He exploded in the Chiefs' 45-10 win over the Bengals, completing 28 of 39 passes (71.8 percent) for 358 yards and four touchdowns to one interception while adding 45 yards on four rushes.
Against the Titans (11-8), Mahomes went 23 for 35 (65.7 percent) with 294 yards and three touchdowns, plus one rushing score on 53 yards and eight carries, as the Chiefs (14-4) punched their ticket to Super Bowl LIV. Kansas City takes on the 49ers (15-3) Feb. 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, after San Francisco won Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers (14-4) 37-20.
