Baseball players in 2019 are equipped with countless tools that they can use to have more productive at-bats. From scouting reports to video breakdowns, players have a wealth of knowledge before they even step in the batter's box.

But you still need to be able execute once you get there. According to Mickey Callaway, J.D. Davis is doing all of that and then some.

"He's armed with every bit of information you can possibly have and he implements it the right way," Callaway said. "It's one thing to have tons of information. Sometimes that can paralyze you. But he implements it the right way in his at bats. He understands what the pitcher's strenghts are and what they're trying to do to him and he really gets a lot of confidence from the preparation that he does."

Davis put that information to good use on Sunday, when he wallopped a 449-foot homer deep over the wall in left field at PNC Park in the Mets' 13-2 win over the Pirates.

"I knew it was going to get over the fence but I didn't know it was going to [go that far]," Davis said. "I knew I hit it pretty good, but for how far it went, I had no clue. I just put my head down and started jogging."

When asked if he'd ever hit a ball that far before, Davis simply said "with a metal bat." Over his last 15 games, he's hitting at a .388/.464/.592 clip.

Callaway was pleased with the overall offensive effort on Sunday, in which the Mets notched 16 hits and scored multiple runs in five different innings.

"We didn't miss our pitches," Callaway said. "They got the ball up and out over the plate a couple of times and we hit it. We got on them early and didn't back down. That's what we needed today."
