Francisco Lindor said on Monday that the Mets hadn't yet discussed a potential extension with him. On Tuesday, Michael Conforto said the same about his own situation.
"We haven't started that conversation," Conforto told reporters via Zoom. "I think for now it's great for me to just be able to come in and get my feet wet and, like I said, meet the guys. See everybody again. A lot of my best friends are here. So it's good to see them. It's good to be back out on a baseball field, run around and work on our craft. For now, that stuff hasn't started yet."
Acting Mets GM Zack Scott suggested on Monday -- speaking shortly after Lindor was done -- that the plan was to soon begin conversations with Lindor and Conforto.
Asked at what point he might become involved in negotiations, Conforto didn't give a specific time, but said he wanted to be involved.
"I would imagine I'll personally be involved with a lot of it," he said. "I'd like to be. I don't know how these things go. I guess I could ask (Jacob deGrom), I could ask some guys that have been through this process. To be completely honest, I've been so focused on preparing myself for this season.
"I can't lie and say that I haven't thought about it. But I'm trying to keep my focus where it needs to be, and that's on this team. And so that's where we're at."
Like Lindor, Conforto is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2021 season.
Entering his seventh season in the majors, Conforto has become one of the Mets' leaders. As far as whether he'll be in New York beyond this season, that is still very much up in the air.
