With the MLB lockout now over, the Mets can continue with their planned unveiling of the Tom Seaver statue at Citi Field.

The team will hold the ceremony on April 15, the team's 2022 home opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Newsday's Tim Healey

The Mets announced unveiling plans last year, but the lockout pushed their first home game (originally April 7 vs. the Washington Nationals) to April 15 against Arizona.

The Seaver statue was planned to be unveiled last July, but the artist asked the Mets for more time to finish it due to the pandemic.

“We are excited to unveil this one-of-a-kind tribute to Tom, but it has to be right,” team president Sandy Alderson said in an official statement at the time. “Given delays related to the pandemic, the artist asked for additional time to complete his work. After conferring with the Seaver family, we made the decision to unveil the statue on Opening Day 2022.”

The club announced plans for the statue in 2019, unveiling the design on June 27, 2019 at the newly named 41 Seaver Way at Citi Field.

The statue will be placed near the Home Run Apple outside the main entrance of the ballpark.

Seaver, the most iconic player in Mets history, died on Aug. 31, 2020 at the age of 75 after a battle with dementia. The Mets wore a "41" patch on the sleeve of their jerseys in 2021 in honor of the Hall-of-Famer.
