- Bassitt came back in the second by striking out Avisail Garcia, and then let up a single to Joey Wendle. Miguel Rojas drove a ball to deep left-center, but the wind held it up and Mark Canha was able to make the out. Bassitt then struck out Jacob Stallings looking to get out of the inning.
Escobar launched a solo homer to right field from the left side of the plate to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Cano singled, and after Canha struck out, Jeff McNeil singled to center. Nimmo drew a walk with two outs to load the bases, and Marte hit a line drive down the third base line that bounced off Wendle's glove, allowing Cano and McNeil to score to make it a 4-1 game.
- Pete Alonso led off the bottom of the third with a double to the left field wall, and advanced to third on Escobar's ground out. Cano drove in Alonso with a line drive single to center, giving the Mets a 5-1 lead. In the top of the fourth, Bassitt walked Jesus Sanchez on four pitches and then let up a two-run homer to Jesus Aguilar, as the Marlins cut the Mets' lead to 5-3. Wendle singled, then moved to third on Rojas' single, and scored on Stallings' single to left, making it a one-run game. Bassitt struck out Jazz Chisholm and then picked off Rojas at second to escape the jam.
- Tomas Nido singled to leadoff the bottom of the fourth, and was able to score after the Marlins committed two errors on Nimmo's grounder to the pitcher -- Pablo Lopez's throw to first was off target and then Chisholm overthrew third base, giving the Mets a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Cano led off with a double, and eventually moved to third on McNeil's groundout. Nido then drove in Cano to make it 7-4.
- Bassitt's day came to an end after 90 pitches over 5.0 IP, as the righty allowed four earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks. The Mets tacked on another run in the sixth, as Alonso doubled with one out and then Cano singled with two outs. He would advance to second on pitcher Zach Pop's throwing error that scored Alonso, making it a 8-4 game.
- A day after nearly getting traded, Dom Smith came in for Alonso at first base in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the eighth, Smith drove a ball to deep left field and it took a hop over the wall for a one out ground-rule double.
Trevor Williams struck out Brady Allen with the bases loaded to end the game, as he tossed the final three innings of the day, allowing four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
