Despite the bullpen blowing the lead, Eduardo Escobar hit a walk-off single in extra innings to lift the Mets to a 5-4 win over the Phillies.

Here are the takeaways…

1.) Chris Bassitt was on the mound and cruised through the first two innings, but had trouble in the third. After giving up a leadoff double, Bassitt walked the next two batters to load them with no outs. A well-time double play allowed for Bassitt to get out of the inning after allowing just one run. However, his pitch count ballooned to 63 after that 34-pitch frame.

Bassitt would settle down and get through the next three innings with rarely a runner on. He would retire his last 10 batters in order. His final stat line was 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K all on 100 pitches.

2.) The Mets got to Zach Wheeler early, scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to hits from Luis Guillorme, Starling Marte and some poor Phillies defense. Wheeler would show why he’s Philadelphia’s ace, settling down after the first and putting out any threats with strikeouts.

Wheeler’s final line was 6IP, 4 H, 3 R (1ER), 3 BB and 7 K.

3.) Francisco Lindor continued his impressive RBI streak, getting one in the first on a fielder’s choice. The shortstop has now driven in a run in seven straight games. Lindor would go 0-for-5.

4.) The Mets bullpen would hold the lead for Bassitt for a little while with Drew Smith starting the seventh, but would leave after getting two outs trying to barehand a comebacker from JT Realmuto. Joely Rodriguez finished off the seventh.

Rodriguez would work into some trouble in the eighth, but would leave with two men on and two outs. Adam Ottavino would come in and give up a three-run home run to Nick Castellanos. The Mets would go into the bottom of the eight down 4-3.

5.) With Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo out of Sunday’s lineup as a precaution for the “wear and tear” they’ve taken this week, the Mets plugged in Nick Plummer. Plummer would become a hero Sunday by hitting a first-pitch leadoff solo shot to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning. This is Plummer's first major league hit and home run. McNeil would actually pinch-hit for Patrick Mazeika and ground out in the ninth.

6.) After a clean 10th inning by Edwin Diaz, the Mets had their chance to win the game. Lindor would strike out and Pete Alonso would be intentionally walked. Eduardo Escobar would play hero by hitting a single to right field to score Marte from second base to lift the Mets to the 5-4 win.
