Six takeaways from Tuesday's game
1) Noah Syndergaard was stellar, and at times absolutely unhittable, especially early on in the game. He breezed through the first four innings on just 41 pitchers and allowed one baserunner, a third-inning walk to Yolmer Sanchez. He finished the game with just five hits allowed over 7.1 innings, giving up just one unearned run. He also struck out a season-best 11 hitters. If this was Syndergaard's last start with the Mets, it was a terrific one.
2) Syndergaard left the game with runners on second and third with one away. After Justin Wilson allowed a bunt to fall in for a single, the White Sox had the bases loaded with one out and the go-ahead run on second. Seth Lugo came up clutch, forcing Jose Abreu into a 5-4-3 double play to end the threat.
3) Edwin Diaz failed to hold on to a one-run lead in the ninth inning. After allowing a leadoff walk, Diaz uncorked two wild pitches and eventually allowed the tying run on a Tim Anderson sac fly, sending the game to extra innings. Diaz was tagged with his fifth blown save of the season in 28 opportunities.
4) The Mets regained the lead in the top of the 11th inning, as Jeff McNeil clobbered a two-run home run to put the Mets ahead, followed by an absolute blast from Michael Conforto. McNeil's blast was the Mets' first hit with a runner in scoring position all night. Conforto has now homered in three straight games.
5) The Mets went ahead 2-0 on a pair of RBI groundouts, one from Tomas Nido in the second inning and another from Robinson Cano in the fifth. They consistently threatened, but were unable to plate anymore runs, going 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
6) Amed Rosario collected four hits for his first multi-hit game since July 20. Despite not being able to string them together, Rosario still has hits in six of his last eight games.
