The Mets sparked an eighth inning rally against the Yankees' vaunted bullpen on Tuesday, coming back to beat the Yankees 4-2 on Tuesday night. >> Box score

Five things to know from Tuesday's game

1) Trailing by a run in the eighth inning, the Mets built another late comeback for the second straight game. After Pete Alonso reached on a DJ LeMahieu throwing error, JD Davis stung a double into center field, just out of the reach of Aaron Hicks, tying the game at 2-2. The Mets then loaded the bases with one out, and Michael Conforto delivered with a two-run double off of Zack Britton to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.

2) Zack Wheeler has not pitched well against the Yankees in his career, but he bucked that trend on Tuesday night. The righty went 6.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out eight. Wheeler threw 116 pitches on the night, and his only real trouble came in the second inning, when he allowed three straight singles to start the inning, including an RBI hit from Gleyber Torres.

3) Davis was in the Mets' lineup on Tuesday because of how well he hits lefties, and he delivered again with a solo home run off of James Paxton in the bottom of the sixth. His ninth home run of the season got the Mets back to within one run, but it was the only damaged they would do off of Paxton, as he went six innings allowing just that one earned run.

4) Fresh off being named to the NL All-Star team, Jeff McNeil posted another multi-hit game on Tuesday. McNeil went 2-4 on Tuesday, pushing his league-leading average up to .351 on the season.

5) Robinson Cano also had another multi-hit game, going 2-3 with a walk against his former club. Cano now has four straight multi-hit games.
