Five takeaways from Sunday's game...

1) Zack Wheeler looked to be cruising in his start today, but he hit a wall in the fifth inning when he allowed three runs to reliniquish the Mets' lead. His day would be done after that frame, with his final line being four runs, three earned on four hits while walking one and striking out two. He would get a no-decision thanks to the Mets' offense.

2) The Mets exploded in the top of the seventh inning, when six runs found their way across the plate. J.D. Davis tied the game first with a pinch hit RBI single. It was Amed Rosario next with an RBI single for himself, and Pete Alonso followed it up with a double to score Rosario and Joe Panik. Michael Conforto and Wilson Ramos would also notch RBI hits.

3) In the top of the ninth, Alonso hit his 40th homer to left field to pad the Mets' lead. And it was a historic one as he became the record holder for the most homers by a rookie in the National League. He finished the day 3-for-4.

4) An interesting situation occurred in the seventh after Davis left the game following a run from first to third. Rosario had to go out and play left field, and of course the ball found him. He made the putout as the Mets bench cheered him on. Rosario's second half surge continued at the plate, too, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.

5) Conforto started the day off with a three-run homer, his 26th of the year to give the Mets an early 3-0 lead. He finished the day with four RBI as well.
