The Mets, who are 15-20 after losing four games in a row, made a pair of deals in advance of Monday's trade deadline.

In one trade, the Mets acquired catcher Robinson Chirinos and infielder Todd Frazier from the Texas Rangers, SNY's Andy Martino confirmed. The Mets will send two players to be named later to Texas.

In the other trade, New York dealt left-handed pitching prospect Kevin Smith and a player to be named later or cash to the Orioles for reliever Miguel Castro, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com

Smith, 23, is a legitimate prospect who had a chance to be an option at the back end of the Mets' rotation as soon as 2021.

While Frazier is set for free agency after the season, the other two players the Mets acquired could be with New York in 2021 and -- in the case of Castro -- 2022.

Chirinos, 36, has a $6.5 million team option or $1 million buyout for 2021.

With Wilson Ramos set for free agency after the season if the Mets don't pick up his $10 million option that contains a $1.5 million buyout, New York could conceivably keep Chirinos around.

But it's hard to see Chirinos, who has hit .119/.224/.143 in 49 plate appearances this season while playing poor defense, as someone who profiles as a starting catcher in 2021.

As far as Castro, the 25-year-old is under team control through the 2022 season, as he is arbitration-eligible in 2021 and 2022.

He's a hard thrower, but the results have been spotty, with Castro posting a 4.30 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in parts of six seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Rockies, and Orioles.

For Baltimore this season, Castro had a 4.02 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 24 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
