The Mets and Yankees officially found out the times they will be playing their five games in three days this weekend. But who will be pitching those games for the Mets is still an unknown.
Luis Rojas has a "day-to-day approach" at the moment about what his rotation will be looking like for the doubleheaders during the Subway Series, which was postponed this past weekend due to two Mets testing positive for coronavirus.
One thing we can know for certain is that Jacob deGrom won't be available for any of the contests because he is set to pitch against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night at Citi Field.
For the rest of the group, we can assume that Rick Porcello will be starting one of the games. Seth Lugo should also be involved, and Steven Matz is a top candidate for a start after being moved to the bullpen in favor of Lugo, as should Robert Gsellman. The doubleheaders, though, will force Rojas to use a starter from the bullpen.
There is also Michael Wacha and David Peterson to think about. They both threw successful bullpens on Wednesday, their second since ramping up baseball activities. Other options are also available at the Mets' Alternate Training Site.
Rojas will need to be reliant on his depth to step up in this tough situation with the amount of games in so few days. But, for now, the team is still mulling over who should start when.
