The Mets announced Sunday that they signed all of their picks from the 2021 MLB Draft -- except for No. 10 overall selection Kumar Rocker.
Issues came up, according to SNY's Andy Martino, after Rocker's physical with the Mets.
There were no questions about Rocker's health coming out of Vanderbilt, and his agent Scott Boras said that the pitcher is healthy.
Boras released the following statement to Martino as the news broke.
"Kumar Rocker is healthy according to independent medical review by multiple prominent baseball orthopedic surgeons," Boras said. "Immediately upon conclusion of his collegiate season, he had an MRI on both his shoulder and his elbow. When compared with his 2018 MRIs, the medical experts found no significant change. Kumar requires no medical attention and will continue to pitch in the regular course as he prepares to begin his professional career."
Because they did not sign Rocker, the Mets get the 11th pick in the 2022 draft.
"This is clearly not the outcome we had hoped for and wish Kumar nothing but success moving forward," said acting general manager Zack Scott in a statement released by the Mets. "We're excited about the players we have signed and look forward to watching them develop and contribute to the organization in the years to come."
Rocker was not deemed to need Tommy John surgery at this time, Martino reported last Tuesday.
"Although Rocker's velocity dropped this year at Vanderbilt, he was pitching healthy through the end of the College World Series," Martino wrote. "Sources outside of Rocker's camp affirm that Vandy was not hiding or aware of any injuries. Sources inside Rocker's camp note that he made 42 consecutive starts and never had a physical issue in college."
