The Mets made a move in their bullpen on Thursday, reportedly agreeing to a deal with veteran lefty Chasen Shreve.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, Shreve has agreed to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

The 29-year-old has pitched six seasons at the big league level. After spending his first year with Atlanta in 2014, a season in which he pitched to a 0.73 ERA in 15 games, Shreve was traded to the Yankees along with David Carpenter in exchange for Manny Banuelos.

Shreve spent four seasons with the Yankees, pitching to a 3.92 ERA overall as a lefty specialist out of the Yankees' pen. His best season in the Bronx was his first year there, in 2015, when he appeared in 69 games and pitched to a 3.09 ERA, though a string of bad outings at the end of the year inflated what was a sub-2.00 ERA for most of the season.

Midway through the 2018 season, the southpaw was traded along with Giovanny Gallegos to the St. Louis Cardinals in a deal that brought Luke Voit to the Yankees. During his season and a half in St. Louis, Shreve pitched to a 3.78 ERA.

For his career, Shreve has held opposing hitters to a .232 batting average, and interestingly enough, he has reverse splits, as right-handed hitters have a career .223 average against him, while lefties have hit .247.

If he makes the team, Shreve would add a lefty presence to a Mets' bullpen that currently has Justin Wilson, who was their most consistent lefthander last season, along with players like Daniel Zamora who were up and down from AAA. Luis Avilan, who appeared in 45 games with the Mets last season, is currently a free agent.
