Two Mets prospects, including Mark Vientos, 'just missed' being on Baseball America's Top 100 list

It was a bit curious that Mets third base prospect Mark Vientos' name wasn't on Baseball America's new Top 100 prospects list in advance of the 2022 season, and it turns out that he "just missed."

Per BA, Vientos and Mets right-handed pitching prospect Matt Allan were two of 15 players who just missed being included on the list.

While Vientos and Allan missed out by a hair, three Mets prospects did make the list: Catcher Francisco Alvarez was ranked No. 13, third baseman Brett Baty checked in at No. 39, and shortstop Ronny Mauricio was No. 92.

Vientos, 22, is on the doorstep of the majors, and he will very likely make his big league debut at some point this season.

He had a huge 2021 campaign with Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse, slashing .281/.352/.581 with 25 homers and 18 doubles in 83 games.

The 20-year-old Allan, who missed the entire 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, has true top of the rotation potential. But he'll be spending the first part of the 2022 season continuing to rehab from surgery before possibly returning to game action.

Because of the surgery, Allan's big league debut will be delayed (and he'll have to slowly build up his innings), with an arrival in the majors possible at some point in 2024 or perhaps 2025.

In his only professional season in 2019 (the entire 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Allan got a taste of Rookie-level ball and Low-A, posting a 2.61 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 14 strikeouts in 10.1 innings.
