The back-and-forth negotiations between MLB and the Players Association continue to drag on, longer than many would have hoped for, and there's still no sign of when the 2020 season will actually begin.
But whenever it does, Pete Alonso will be ready.
Appearing as a guest on Thursday's Beyond The Booth Live with Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, and Steve Gelbs, Alonso was asked how much of a spring training he'd need to be ready for the regular season.
While a three-week spring training is the most likely scenario, Alonso won't even need that much time.
"For me, conditioning-wise, I feel like I'm in outstanding shape," Alonso said. "I've been treating this entire 'mini-offseason' as spring training. The only thing I haven't done is play, but I've been facing some pitchers, getting some live ABs with whoever is willing to throw to me. I'm ready. I want to go as soon as possible. I think three weeks, for me, I'd probably be ready in 10 days, like ready to go because I want to play as many games as possible.
"For us, we want to have as much of a complete season as possible. This is a unique year for us … I think having a competitive, as close to a full season as possible, I think that would be huge."
