The Mets are not currently considering hiring Driveline Baseball founder and former Cincinnati Reds director of pitching Kyle Boddy, sources with direct knowledge of their thinking told SNY.

The Mets and Boddy had a few informal conversations, as reported by Michael Mayer of Metsmerized. But those talks did not progress, and are not expected to.

The Mets continue to value pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, who brings many of the qualities that initially made Boddy an attractive candidate to the Reds. Those qualities include a facility with data and technology. Hefner is also widely considered to be especially talented at communicating these concepts to players.

Hefner’s contract is up at the end of the season, making it no sure thing that he will remain with the Mets. But if he does, he could become even more influential in shaping the organization’s pitching philosophies.

Boddy and the Reds recently parted ways after two years. Cincinnati had hired him from Driveline, which pioneered tech-savvy training methods.
