Stephen Strasburg has agreed to a seven-year deal with the Nationals worth $245 million, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. It is a record deal for a pitcher both in terms of total value and average annual value.

The deal includes a full no-trade clause and does not have any opt-outs, reports Tim Brown of Yahoo.

While the Nats have made a huge move by retaining Strasburg, his return almost certainly means the end of free agent Anthony Rendon as a National.

Nationals owner Mark Lerner said last week that the team could not afford to sign both Strasburg and Rendon.

As far as the Mets are concerned, they continue to seemingly sit largely idle as their three main competitors in the NL East continue to act in an aggressive and bold manner.

The Phillies signed Zack Wheeler and have been linked to other big names on the market, including Josh Donaldson and Anthony Rendon.

The Braves have made a flurry of moves, including signing Will Smith -- arguably the best reliever on the market. Like the Phillies, the Braves have been linked to Donaldson, who spent last season in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the Mets have done very little.

Their only moves of note have been to trade two prospects for part-time center fielder Jake Marisnick and re-sign reliever Brad Brach.
