The remainder of the season-opening Mets-Nationals three-game series has been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns with the Nats, the league announced on Friday.
MLB said in a statement: Major League Baseball announced today that the remainder of this weekend’s series between the host Washington Nationals and the New York Mets at Nationals Park, which includes games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, has been postponed due to continued follow-up testing and contact tracing involving members of the Nationals organization. Major League Baseball will continue to provide scheduling updates as available.
The Mets worked out at Nationals Park on Thursday and will do so again on Friday.
Their first game of the season is now scheduled for Monday in Philadelphia against the Phillies at 7:05 p.m. on SNY.
Thursday's Opening Day game against the Nats had been postponed Thursday morning after one Nats player tested positive for COVID. The teams had been scheduled to play at 7:09 p.m., while Friday was a scheduled off-day.
Nationals GM Mike Rizzo announced on Thursday evening that two additional players had tested positive, bringing their total to three cases with a fourth positive case still possible and putting the games for Saturday and Sunday in doubt.
Per Rizzo, the entire Nationals team was self-quarantining.
The Mets do not have any COVID issues.
