Matthew Allan was viewed as the best high school pitcher in the 2019 MLB Draft when the Mets pounced on him in the third round after signability concerns led to him falling out of the first round.

Now, Allan -- who tossed 10.1 innings across two minor league levels last season in what was his professional debut -- is on the cusp of being a top 100 prospect in MLB.

According to Jim Callis of MLB.com, Allan -- who was ranked the 13th-best prospect in the 2019 draft -- is among 10 prospects who just missed the cut on the recent MLB Pipeline top 100 list.

Four Mets prospects made that list -- INF Ronny Mauricio (No. 62), C Francisco Alvarez (No. 63), INF Andres Gimenez (No. 84) and 3B Brett Baty (No. 93).

In addition to being a near-miss on MLB Pipeline's list, Allan just missed the cut on the new Baseball Prospectus top 101, with the publication writing that he would've been No. 102 had the list extended that far.

Former Mets executive and current SNY contributor Adam Fisher has referred to the 18-year-old Allan as the "linchpin" of the Mets' recent draft.

A 6-foot-3 starter out of Seminole High School in Florida, Allan has a fastball that already tops out at 97 MPH. He should open this season with Low-A Columbia and has a big league ETA of 2023.

"He has the build, the delivery and the stuff to be a front of the rotation big league starter," SNY contributor Joe DeMayo wrote about Allan when ranking the Mets' top 20 prospects for 2020.
