Mets manager Luis Rojas met with members of the media on Tuesday evening ahead of the matchup with the Baltimore Orioles.

The Mets skipper offered a few injury updates on J.D. Davis, Steven Matz, and Dellin Betances.

Here's what Rojas had to say:

On Davis

The best news on the injury front came on Davis, who, despite not being in Tuesday night’s lineup against the Orioles, is available to come off the bench and is feeling “better,” according to Rojas.

Davis was drilled in the hip by a 99mph Aroldis Chapman fastball on Saturday and then came out of the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader as the hip injury lingered.

“Not a big concern with him,” Rojas said on Tuesday. “He should be available for the game coming off the bench. We definitely needed to run some different tests with him, like running, coming out of the box and couple of different things that he wanted to feel that he just felt really wrong Sunday when we were playing the Yankees. Better today. Like I said, he’s available off the bench. We just wanted to test a few things and go from there, but he’s better.”

On Matz

Matz left Saturday’s game against the Yankees after just one inning of relief, though the previous hope had been that he’d be able to give the Mets multiple innings behind Robert Gsellman.

Listening to Rojas on Tuesday, it sounds like the plan is still to wait and see how Matz progresses from his shoulder discomfort, though Rojas did say there was ‘nothing significant’ that Matz is experiencing.

“With Matzy it’s more so like now it’s rest, and then start a progression where he starts throwing and all that,” Rojas said. “No major damage there in the shoulder, nothing significant.”

On Betances

As for Betances, the Mets seem to be taking a similar approach with him as the one they’re using with Matz. Right not, rest is the best option, though the hope is that both Betances and Matz can be back with the team soon.

“With Dellin, it’s that lat area, like almost in the back too. He’s also going to need some time too and then the progression to get back,” Rojas said. “Nothing major to both pitchers, which is good news. Even tough they went on the IL for us and we lost those two guys, but they should be getting into a rehab program that progresses them back and hopefully we see them soon.”
