Jeff McNeil will not play for the Mets on Friday against the Phillies, he told reporters on a Zoom call, as his knee is still not 100 percent after injuring it Thursday.

McNeil has been listed as day-to-day and will continue to monitor how he feels. McNeil did indicate that his neck is a bit sore.

"I'm feeling alright, feeling better than yesterday," McNeil said. "Woke up a little bit sore, but going to go through as much as I can today and see where we are at."

McNeil gave the Mets a big scare during Thursday's game against the Nationals, when he had to be carted off the field after robbing Asdrubal Cabrera of a potential two-RBI, extra base hit to end the inning. After making the catch, McNeil crashed into the outfield wall and immediately slammed his glove on the grown and laid out on the warning track.

X-Rays and an MRI, but both came back negative, which was a relief to McNeil, who feared it could've been much worse.

"Yeah, I thought it was much worse than it was," McNeil said. "As soon as I hit the wall, my knee was kind of numb, it felt weird. ...When I stood up it didn't feel like my knee was too stable...but to have all the good news come back is really relieving."

Injuries come with sports, and McNeil knows that, and they won't ever stop him from playing as hard as he can every time he's out on the field.

"That's who I am, I play the game hard, I play the game the right way," McNeil said. "So if there's a ball that I need to go into the wall to catch, I'm going to do it."

"I'm never going to change, that's who I am as a player."
