J.D. Davis made his major league debut with the Houston Astros on August 5, 2017.

He hit eighth in the lineup that day, going 1-for-4 while playing third base.

Three spots ahead of him in the lineup that day was Carlos Beltran, the man who is now the Mets manager.

Davis had an impressive first season with the Mets in 2019, setting career highs with a .307 average, 22 home runs, and 57 runs driven in.

In 2020, he'll look to build off that momentum, now under the tutelage of his former teammate.

"I spoke to him on the phone a couple of days ago and then I saw him (on Tuesday)," Davis said on Wednesday. "We kind of hit it off again, just seeing each other face to face again. He's a really great guy and I'm excited.

"He was excited. We started talking about guys, situational stuff, and what we wanted to bring as a team to spring training, and what the game plan was and what message we wanted to bring into spring training. But he's a great guy, he has a very high IQ, so it's going to be interested and it's going to be fun, what he brings to the table."

The Mets acquired Davis in a trade with the Astros last January, and while he was a very consistent hitter with the team, the Mets had him playing mainly in left field, though Davis continues to express a preference to play third base.

"Wherever the team needs me," Davis said on Wednesday.
