Jacob deGrom and the Mets agreed to a one-year, $17 million contract for 2019, avoiding arbitration, as first reported by SNY's Andy Martino.
It is a $9.6 million raise for the 30-year-old right-hander, a record raise for an arbitration-eligible player, topping Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts, who was given a $9.5 million raise to avoid arbitration earlier on Friday.
While it means no extension for the reigning Cy Young award winner, an extension still remains a priority, sources tell Martino.
Degrom went 10-9 with a league-leading 1.70 ERA (1.99 FIP) and 269 strikeouts in 217 innings pitched last season to beat Max Scherzer for the top pitching honor in the NL.
