Luis Rojas provided injury updates on two key Mets on Wednesday, giving the latest on where Marcus Stroman and Robert Gsellman are at on their respective roads back.

Additionally, the Mets placed outfielder Jake Marisnick on the Injured List due to a left hamstring strain. To fill Marisnick's spot on the roster, the Mets have called up outfielder Ryan Cordell from the Alternate Training Site, while designating RHP Jordan Humphreys for assignment.

STROMAN

Out with a torn calf, Stroman said last week that he would keep his arm ready while he was on the IL, and that's exactly what he's doing.

"He's throwing, he's throwing his side (sessions) full tilt, in the 80-pitch (range) simulating like a game," Rojas said. "As far as pitch counts, he's done his work. He shared some of the limitations that he has because of the tear in his calf. That's the assessment we're gonna have with everyone, and we need to know on a week-to-week span. We're waiting on the next report on where his status is at as far as his calf."

Stroman explained last week that he would probably still be pitching if not for the precautionary MRI that revealed the tear, noting that once he's able to sprint off the mound and field his position, he'll be ready to return.

Until then, the expectation is that David Peterson will remain in the starting rotation.

GSELLMAN

Gsellman has been out since late in summer camp and won't come off the IL as soon as he's eligible, but he's getting closer to a return.

"He's eager to get out there and compete. I believe the next step is to face batters in the next couple of days," Rojas said. "We'll look to see how that goes and then we'll reassess on what the next step is after that. That's where he is, facing batters right now. But he's feeling better each day."

Gsellman's return could come around that same time Jared Hughes returns, potentially giving the Mets two solid middle relievers to add to the big league roster.
