The Mets had a meeting with free agent C Wilson Ramos on Monday, reports Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Ramos, 31, could be a fallback option at catcher -- along with Yasmani Grandal or Martin Maldonado -- if the Mets aren't able to trade for Marlins C J.T. Realmuto, SNY's Andy Martino reported earlier Monday.

Ramos is one of the better offensive catchers in baseball, but his defense leaves a bit to be desired.

He was worth -5 DRS last season, which he split between the Rays and Phillies, while throwing out 29 percent of would-be base-stealers. That caught stealing rate jumped up in 23 games with the Phils, where he gunned down 44 percent of runners.

At the plate in 2018, Ramos hit .306/.358/.487 with 15 homers and 22 doubles in 111 games.

For his career, Ramos is a .273/.317/.439 hitter with 109 homers in nine seasons with the Twins, Nationals, Rays, and Phillies.

The Mets have been open about their desire to add a starting catcher who can push either Travis d'Arnaud or Kevin Plawecki to a backup role.

While the team recently tendered d'Arnaud a contract, they will be able to cut him before the season starts if they so choose while owing him just a small portion of what he'll get via arbitration.
