Mets ace Jacob deGrom threw a side session on Monday and is scheduled to return to the starting rotation on Wednesday, manager Luis Rojas told reporters before Monday's game against the Marlins in Miami.
"After seeing (how good he was in) the side, he just needs to show up," Rojas deadpanned when asked if deGrom needed to clear any more hurdles.
DeGrom missed this past Friday's start against the Phillies in Philadelphia while dealing with "lingering" neck tightness.
Speaking before Friday's game, deGrom said that while he could have pitched, he was worried about putting the team in a bad spot if he started the game and was unable to provide length due to the neck issue.
Walker Lockett started Friday in deGrom's place and allowed five runs in six innings.
DAVID PETERSON IS GOOD TO GO
David Peterson, who left his last start after just 74 pitches due to shoulder soreness, is fine and scheduled to pitch on Tuesday.
Peterson said after leaving Thursday's game that he wasn't at all concerned about the shoulder issue, which he said was common and general.
STEVEN MATZ IS STILL IN LIMBO
Rojas would not commit on Saturday after Steven Matz's latest rough start to him making his next start, and the manager remained non-committal on Monday.
Rojas said a determination had not yet been made regarding whether Matz will get the ball for Thursday's series finale in Miami against the Marlins.
If Matz does not make the start, potential options to replace him include the recently-recalled Franklyn Kilome and Lockett.
