With the MLB Postseason about to begin, who should Mets fans be rooting for to win the World Series? And which team winning it all would be the most awful?

On a scale from "that would be awesome" to "this makes me want to vomit," here's a guide...

1. Oakland Athletics

When the season began, the A's had 300-1 odds to win the World Series -- better odds than only nine teams. Now, Oakland -- with the third-lowest payroll in baseball -- is set to face the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Game. They have persevered through injuries to their starting rotation and been carried by guys like Stephen Piscotty, Matt Chapman, Khris Davis, and Edwin Jackson.

Last World Series title: 1989

2. Cleveland Indians

Yes, the Indians were in the World Series as recently as 2016, when they lost Game 7 at home in heartbreaking fashion to the Cubs. And while their World Series drought isn't as bad as what the Cubs' drought was, 70 years is a hell of a long time. A team with Corey Kluber anchoring its rotation and Francisco Lindor anchoring its offense is also a lot of fun to watch.

3. Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers, with Christian Yelich absolutely sizzling at the plate, came from behind to snatch the NL Central title from the Cubs, who they beat in Game 163 to vault into the NLDS. In terms of hated players, the presence of Josh Hader on their roster is outweighed by Yelich, Lorenzo Cain, Jesus Aguilar, and others. The Brewers' only World Series appearance was 1982, when they lost to the Cardinals in seven games.

4. Colorado Rockies

The Rockies are this high on the list partly because it's fun to envision an actual competitive World Series played in Colorado (the Rockies were swept by the Red Sox in their only World Series appearance back in 2007) and partly because it's fun to envision Nolan Arenado on the World Series stage. Kyle Freeland (whose terrific season got lost a bit amidst the brilliance of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer) heads their starting rotation.

5. Houston Astros

It's hard to put a team that just won the World Series in 2017 this high, but the presence of the five teams about to come on the list made it a necessity. It's also hard to root against a team that has Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa, and George Springer on its roster. If the Astros win it all in 2018, they'll be the first repeat champion since the Yankees in 1999 and 2000. So there's also the fact that we wouldn't have to hear that stat anymore.

6. Boston Red Sox

They've won a lot lately and lots of their fans are annoying, but this iteration of the Red Sox -- headlined by Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, J.D. Martinez, and Chris Sale -- has never experienced true winning in Boston. There's also the added benefit of another Red Sox title making Yankees fans sick.

7. Chicago Cubs

The Mets swept the Cubs in the 2015 NLCS en route to the World Series, so there really isn't that much recent animosity here. But the Cubs won it all just two years ago, and I don't think any Mets fan wants to see Daniel Murphy win it all. Also making the Cubs a bit of a cringe-worthy team to root for is the presence of Cole Hamels.

8. Los Angeles Dodgers

Is there any Mets fan on the face of the earth who wants to see Chase Utley win another ring before he retires? And is there any Mets fan who isn't sick of watching Justin Turner hit bombs before hearing the announcers talk about how the Mets let him go? If those two players weren't there -- and if the Dodgers didn't have an absurd $226 million dollar payroll -- this would be an easy team to root for. Oh well.

9. Atlanta Braves

Freddie Freeman's torment of the Mets notwithstanding, there really isn't anything to hate about the Braves (except the Tomahawk Chop). They have two of the most exciting young players in the game (Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies), and the pitchers in their starting rotation are easy to root for. But they're in the NL East. And if an NL East team makes the World Series, you have to root against them. Unless that team is playing the final team on this list...

10. New York Yankees

A common misconception among outside observers when wondering why most Mets fans hate the Yankees is that it primarily has to do with the team. It doesn't. Many things about the Yankees make Mets fans sick, but for lots of Mets fans, hatred of the Yankees has most to do with their distaste for their fans -- many of whom turn any normal baseball argument into an excuse to say "Rings" repeatedly. This Yankees team doesn't have that many players who Mets fans dislike, but they still play in a little league ballpark, and play for a franchise that forbids long hair and most facial hair in the year 2018. On top of all of the above, the Yankees winning would mean a parade down the Canyon of Heroes. Is there any Mets fan who wants to commute to work through that?
