A rocky 2019 season hasn't completely knocked down Mets closer Edwin Diaz in the eyes of some baseball experts.

A few days after MLB Network's The Shredder ranked Mets ace Jacob deGrom the best starting pitcher in the majors, Diaz appeared in the top-10 list for relief pitchers.

Diaz landed in the No. 9 spot.

The 25-year-old had a miserable first season with the Mets. With the Mariners in 2018, the young closer led the majors with 57 saves. Then-new Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen pulled off a big-time trade to land Diaz. That blockbuster trade got the Mets Diaz and Robinson Cano, but cost the team prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn, among other pieces.

Diaz only had 26 saves and a 5.59 ERA in his first season in Queens, but there's optimism that Diaz can produce a bounce-back season next year with his youth in mind.

Earlier this season, the same voters slotted a few other Mets players in No. 9 spots. Both Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto were voted as the ninth-best players at center field and right field, respectively.
