The Mets announced on Saturday afternoon that reliever Dellin Betances has been transferred to the 60-day injured list as he deals with a right shoulder impingement.

The 33-year-old right-hander was originally placed on the 10-day IL on April 8, a day after making his season debut and lone appearances of 2021 when he allowed an earned run against the Phillies.

Mets acting GM Zack Scott was asked about Betances’ injury on Friday, saying that there’s no defined timetable for when Betances could take the mound again.

"As you guys know he went on the IL with a shoulder impingement, he's stayed back in New York to rehab, back here," Scott said. "So, he's obviously rejoined the team now that we're home. They're just going to continue to work strengthening the shoulder.

"Obviously, the shoulder is an area you always have to be mindful that we're doing all the right things, and have a really good program set up. I've talked to our performance staff, and we feel like we have a good plan in place, but he's still in that strengthening portion of that so it's hard to really project a timetable."

Since signing with the Mets prior to the 2020 season, Betances has appeared in just 16 games due to multiple injury issues, and both his command and velocity have been an issue. While the average velocity of his fastball has dipped down significantly, Betances has struggled to find the strike zone, walking 13 hitters with three hit-batters and two wild pitches in 12.2 innings.
