David Peterson followed up arguably his worst outing as a Met with another rough one on Tuesday night, not lasting past 2.2 innings this time around in the 10-3 loss to Baltimore.
Peterson, who allowed a stunning five earned runs on three hits and three walks in just 0.1 innings in his last outing at the start of the month, went 2.2 innings on Tuesday night, this time allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out four.
"We're just going through a rough patch right now," Peterson said after suffering his fifth loss of the season. "I'm coming to the ballpark every day and trying to get better and trying to straighten this thing out, but you know, I mean that's all I can keep doing is showing up and working hard and trying to put this back on the straight and narrow."
The Mets have lost in four of his last five outings -- they came back from that last rocky Peterson start to beat Arizona 7-6 -- and the lefty is just 1-5 this season with a 6.32 ERA.
"I think you've got to take the positives and you've got to take the things you've got to work on and you've got to move forward," Peterson said on dealing with adversity. "You can't dwell on the good or the bad. You've got to move on to the next one."
The Mets' rotation was a bit banged up there for a small stretch this season, but is now back to looking like it did to start the season.
But the Mets are still waiting on Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Carrasco to make their season debuts. Once they're inserted into the rotation (eventually), the Mets could easily have the best rotation in baseball.
