If the Mets are to get another shot at the Atlanta Braves this season, there are two scenarios -- with one much more likely than the other.

The first scenario is the Mets -- as the No. 4 seed and top Wild Card team -- knocking off the San Diego Padres or Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card Series, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, and meeting the Braves in the NLCS -- should Atlanta win what would be an NLDS matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals or Phillies/Padres.

The second scenario -- which would only happen if the Braves lost their next two games to the Miami Marlins and the Mets swept the Washington Nationals (giving the Mets the NL East title and a bye through the Wild Card Series) -- would be a lot easier for New York.

The Mets would have to beat the Cardinals or Phillies/Padres in the NLDS, setting up a potential NLCS matchup with Atlanta if the Braves got through the Wild Card Series and the Dodgers in the NLDS.

With the NL East in the balance this past weekend, the Mets were swept in a three-game series by the Braves, losing the season series 10-9.

And there's at least one Met who wants another shot at the Braves.

"I think we’re better than those guys and I think we’ll prove it if we face them again," Seth Lugo told Mike Puma of The New York Post on Monday.

Added Lugo:

"I would like another shot. At the same time, whoever is the opponent, you want to face the best."

Mark Canha didn't discuss the Braves specifically, but he weighed in on the NL East battle, explaining that winning the division is far from the Mets' ultimate goal.

"That wasn’t the goal in spring training," Canha told The Post. "The goal was to win the World Series. We can still do that and we need to prepare ourselves for that road...You can’t win the World Series on Oct. 3, so we have got to win these games, first and foremost.

"We have to compete and get into compete mode and get ready to compete once the playoffs start."
