The Mets are having a busy offseason, and their shift in structure moved beyond the diamond on Friday.

Head of Mets player development Ian Levin is the new senior director of baseball operations, the Mets announced. Levin will take on a larger role including analytics, player development, health and performance. Levin's broadened front-office scope is a promotion for a Sandy Alderson era holdover who is widely respected. Martino also reports that Omar Minaya, Mets special assistant to the general manager, will remain an influential advisor.

"I'm excited to continue to invest in the front office with personnel that have a championship pedigree," Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said. "We are looking to build the organization to achieve consistent success by incorporating new members and promoting from within."

Levin has worked for the Mets since 2005, beginning as a Media Relations intern. He was a Baseball Operations intern in 2006 before serving as the Coordinator of Amateur Scouting from 2007-2012. Levin later worked as the Manager of Baseball Analytics from 2013-2014 before becoming the Director of Minor League Operations from 2015-2016.

Levin's promotion arrived on the tailends of another Mets' revamp. New York picked up Boston's VP of personnel Jared Banner to become its new farm director on Friday. The 32-year-old Banner oversaw the scouting of professional players in international leagues for the Red Sox.

Banner is the latest front office addition for new GM Van Wagenen, who hired Adam Guttridge as assistant GM of systematic development and Allard Baird as vice president and assistant GM of scouting and player development.
