The Mets dropped their second straight game as they were defeated by the Los Angeles Angles, 3-2, in the series finale of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon.

Here are the takeaways...

- After a string of strong showings, Jose Quintana wasn't quite as sharp this time around, as he was was forced to fight his way through traffic during most of his outing. The southpaw did well to keep the Mets in the ballgame and he allowed just three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out four across five innings of work.

- The Mets' offense wasn't able to get much going against Angles starter Griffin Canning, who came into the day having allowed at least four runs in six of his last 10 starts. New York had plenty of opportunities as the right-hander issued four walks, but he held them to just two runs (one earned) as they went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

- Pete Alonso had been heating up at the plate, but he had a rough go of it this afternoon, as he squandered three of those key opportunities early on. The big man grounded out with a man on third in the top of the first, rolled into a double play in the top of the third, and popped out with two on and two outs in the top of the fifth.

- The Mets had one more massive opportunity to turn things around with runners on the corners and one out in the top of the eighth, but Mark Vientos grounded into an inning-ending double play. Overall, they left seven men on base and finished a brutal 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

- New York held Zach Neto in check during the series opener on Friday night, but he was a thorn in their sides over the final two games, coming through with big hits in each of them. After launching the game-winning homer the night before, the young shortstop hustled around the bases for a triple, and scored what ended up being the winning run on a sacrifice fly on Sunday.

- Adam Ottavino put together a strong outing in relief, striking out a pair across a scoreless inning of work. After a bit of a rough stretch, the veteran right-hander has now allowed just one earned run over his last nine appearances.

Game MVP: Griffin Canning

Canning did well to work his way through traffic all afternoon, allowing just two runs and striking out eight over five innings.
