The Mets have officially added one more big arm into their trade deadline bullpen upgrade, picking up right-hander Huascar Brazoban in a deal with the Marlins.
In exchange, New York is sending minor league infielder Wilfredo Lara to Miami.
Brazoban spent nearly a decade grinding his way to the big-league level before receiving his first opportunity working out of the Marlins' bullpen three years ago.
The hard-throwing righty has solidified himself as a quality middle relief piece since then, recording the second-most strikeouts (139) and third-most innings pitched (121.1) over that span.
Brazoban comes with five more years of control and is in the midst of a career-best campaign, having posted a 2.93 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across 20 appearances this season.
He has been terrific at limiting hard contract, and has dominated of late, allowing just two unearned runs while walking two and striking out 19 batters in nine July outings.
Brazoban figures to slot into the late inning mix for the Mets, but could also eat multiple innings in relief, having worked at least 1.1 innings in 10 of his 20 outings this season.
He joins fellow right-handers Phil Maton, Ryne Stanek, and Tyler Zuber as the reinforcements for the Mets' bullpen down the stretch this season.
