The Yankees fell 4-1 to the Astros at home in Tuesday's Game 3 of the ALCS, and after Wednesday's game was postponed due to rain, the series continues at Yankee Stadium for Game 4 on Thursday at 8:08 p.m.

Yankees notes

The Astros took a 2-1 lead in the ALCS on Tuesday after beating the Yankees 4-1. Luis Severino struggled on the mound, allowing two home runs in 4.1 innings of work. Astros star Jose Altuve got his team ahead early with a first inning homer, and then outfielder Josh Reddick added on to the lead with a second inning blast.

The Yankees bats stayed relatively quiet throughout the game, managing just five hits and going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Their lone run came from a Gleyber Torres eighth inning homer, and occurred once Gerrit Cole's night was done for the Astros. The righty threw seven scoreless inning, while striking out seven and allowing just four hits.

Giancarlo Stanton has been out with a strained quad since Game 1 of the ALCS, but remains on the team's roster.

Who is starting for the Yankees?

RHP Masahiro Tanaka is already 1-0 in this series, after throwing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit in the Yankees 7-0 Game 1 victory. He threw just 68 pitches in Game 1 and with Game 4 being postponed on Wednesday night due to rain, it allowed Tanaka to pitch on regular rest for the rescheduled Game 4.

He also pitched well against the Twins in the ALDS, allowing just one earned run on three hits in five innings of work. Tanaka's ERA for the playoffs is at 0.82 and he's struck out 11 batters in 11 innings over the two starts.

Who is starting for the Astros?

RHP Zack Greinke threw six innings in Game 1 of the ALCS, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in the loss. He struck out six but allowed two home runs to the Yankees' sluggers.

Greinke struggled in his other start this postseason, allowing six earned runs in just 3.2 innings during the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. He allowed three home runs on five hits and walked one, making his postseason ERA 8.38 in just 9.2 innings pitched.

Upcoming schedule 

The Yankees will play Game 5 of the ALCS against the Astros at Yankee Stadium on Friday at 7:08 p.m. LHP James Paxton is expected to start for the Yankees, while RHP Justin Verlander is the likely starter for the Astros.
