While Yankees manager Aaron Boone, much of his staff, and a bunch of players left spring training in Tampa on Tuesday to head home, there are still coaches and players who continue to prepare for the season at Steinbrenner Field.

The four players who were there hitting on Wednesday were Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, Clint Frazier, and Tyler Wade, according to hitting coach Marcus Thames.

Stanton, who had resumed baseball activities on March 7 as he worked his way back from a calf strain, will almost certainly be ready for Opening Day now that the season has been pushed back to the second week of May at the earliest.

Speaking in his car near the facility on Wednesday, Thames shed light on the precautions that are being taken amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"Try to stay away from people as much as you can," Thames told reporters. "It's hard because just in the industry that we're in. But I live here. So if guys want to work out I still have to come in and try to help them out as much as I can. Hopefully we can get through this together."

Asked if the drills he's helping to conduct have been impacted due to coronavirus, Thames said yes.

"I have to wear gloves," he said. It's weird. I have to wear latex gloves and batting gloves (and) try to stay safe. Just trying to listen to the health people and make sure we're doing the right thing."

While coronavirus has yet to have a direct impact on anyone in big league camp, two Yankees minor leaguers have tested positive and remain quarantined.
