As Marcus Stroman makes his return to New York, he definitely won't be staying at his parent's house in Long Island. His father, Earl, isn't a big fan of that.

"I don't know where, not in my house," Earl Stroman told Newsday's Steven Marcus about his son joining the Mets via trade. "When [Steven Matz] was home he couldn't stay at his house, fans would go there and knock on his father's door with baseball bats. He'll find somewhere where he's comfortable."

It should be a comfortable return for Stroman, who grew up a standpoint hurler in Long Island. But he has hinted that the Yankees may be his preferred destination. In fact, multiple reports surfaced that there was "commotion" in the Blue Jays clubhouse yesterday, and it was Stroman was seemed disappointed that he was traded to the Mets.

His father affirmed it.

"He was hoping it was the Yankees a little bit," Earl Stroman said. "He was kind of psyched, maybe hoping to go there. I'm not going to tell you that he wasn't. If he was to leave Toronto at all. Don't forget, Marcus loves Toronto, his heart was there. The brass [management] didn't kind of appreciate him as much as the fans did. The whole country took to him and they took to me."

The Mets' crosstown rival will still have a shot at Stroman after the 2020 season when he becomes a free agent. But GM Brodie Van Wagenen didn't trade away two solid pitchers in Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson to let Stroman walk in free agency. Their goal is more than likely to re-sign him before he hits the market.

But no matter if he's a Met or Yankee, Earl Stroman is happy that he can see his son more often than he did in Toronto.

"His hometown base now, I'll get to see him play a little bit more," Stroman said. "Marcus wants to win, he's competitive. That kid wants to win and he wants the ball whenever he can.

"Marcus is happy about being home, hopefully they make a push toward the playoffs."
